KARACHI: The importer M/s Health Care & Social Welfare Association (charitable organisation) has been booked in huge tax evasion of duty and taxes case amounting Rs 8.4 million on import of medicines and injections worth Rs 23. 24 million on fake import documents.
The Air Freight Unit (AFU) of MCC-Preventive during the examination of the consignments found that the importer M/s Health Care & Welfare Association was involved in import of medicine and injection on fake import documents.
Additional Collector-AFU Dr Muhammad Tahir Qureshi while informing media about the case said that the team of Pakistan Customs-AFU during the examination detected a consignment of medicines and injections amounting 23,244,000 at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi imported by M/s Health Care and Social Welfare Association.
“During scrutiny of the consignment, the Customs officials found that the import documents of the said consignment were fake which was an attempt to deprive the national kitty with the legitimate duty/taxes of Rs84,66,000,” he added.
Tahir further informed this scribe that the department after making the Contravention Report (CR) against the importer M/s Health Care & Social Welfare sent the case to the adjudication authorities, while the department is scrutinising the data of the previous consignments of the importer M/s Health Care & Social Welfare Association.
The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I has issued show cause notice (SCN) against the importer and clearing agent M/s Ahmed & Company and fixed November 10 hearing date in the case.
