ISLAMABAD: More lawmakers from Senate, National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies have filed tax returns increasing the number of taxpayer parliamentarians from 1072 to 1120, as Federal Board of Revenue is to update tax directory by February 28.
However, FBR has issued updated version of parliamentarians’ tax directory on February 26. Certain corrections have been made in the directory as per facts submitted by some of the parliamentarians like correct National Tax Number (NTN) or any change in tax payments etc.
The number of non-filers of returns has gone down from 100 to 52 as a total of 1172 legislators were being issued NTNs. The names of 52 non-filers parliamentarians of income tax returns have not been given in the directory.
According to the updated ‘tax directory’, some Parliamentarians, whose names are marked by asterisk (*), have shared income as members of Associations of Persons. Since, Association of Persons pay tax as a separate entity, such share is not taxable on the hands of the members. Hence, tax paid on such share is not reflected in their personal returns.
However, parliamentarians are again requested to review their individual data and if there is any discrepancy, it may be brought to the notice of the Chief Commissioner of the respective Regional Tax Office or Member Inland Revenue Policy. Based on this feedback, the final version of the directory shall be published on February 28, 2014. Till said date, this directory may be treated as provisional edition.
Furthermore, the returns filed by parliamentarians by 28th February, 2014 shall also be included in the final edition.
