ISLAMABAD: After the transfer of Special Customs Court Judge Chaudhary Mumtaz Hussain in Model Ayyan Ali’s currency smuggling case, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has decided not to submit the challan in court until the deputation of the new judge.
Sources informed Customs Today that the decision was made at a meeting of the JIT, which was attended by Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad Additional Collector Abdul Waheed Marawat, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Additional Collector Asif Argon and Inland Revenue Intelligence Deputy Director Amir Illyas.
They added that the meeting was scheduled for reviewing the matter pertaining to the challan submission, while after the transfer of the judge, the team now has more time to probe the matter and it was decided in meeting that the challan would be submitted after the appointment of the new judge.
It is important to mention here that Customs Judge Mumtaz had directed the JIT to present the challan of the case on April 24, while the team wanted to stretch investigation in Ayyan’s case to bring to table all hidden accused.
Sources informed that if a weak challan was submitted in the court, it was expected that court would release model Ayyan after imposing a minor penalty.
