LAHORE: Lahore High Court has rejected an application, challenging the collection of Rs 10 as tax for the biometric registration of SIM cards.
As per detail, Applicant Iffat Chaudhry said before the honorable court that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has imposed tax of Rs 10 over the biometric registration of the every SIM card that is illegal. He said it was the duty of telecom companies to duly confirm the registration of users. He requested the Court to issue the stay order against the imposition of tax.
After observing the arguments of applicant, Honorable Court rejected the application.
It is important to mention that a citizen Iffat Chaudhary had lodged an application in Lahore High Court against the receiving of Rs 10 as tax on the biometric registration of mobile phone Sims from users. Applicant had taken stance that only Pakistan Parliament has the right to impose any tax and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Act also do not allow collection of any additional tax from users so the collection of ten rupees is illegal and should be stopped.
