LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday extended the stay order regarding luxury tax on houses with more than two kanals of land.
The LHC again issued a notice to the Punjab government to submit reply regarding application lodged against the imposition of luxury tax.
Applicant Zain Shahzad’s lawyers took stance that the Punjab government could not collect dual property taxes. On the other hand, the Punjab government apparently succumbed to the public pressure and revised the decision regarding a 50 percent increase in property tax. The provincial government announced that the house owners who received the property tax with a 50 percent raise should go to nearest excise office for correction.
