KINGTON: Customs officers carried out an operation on a Cayman Airways flight from Kingston, Jamaica this morning.
Customs Deputy Collector Marlon Bodden says it is a part of a strategy to reduce contraband coming through the airport. Dogs from the Customs K-9 Unit sniffed each checked luggage as it was unloaded from the aircraft. The inside of the aircraft was also searched.
Passengers told they understand Customs has a job to do, but they were upset it took approximately one hour after the aircraft landed in order for any suitcase to placed on the conveyor belt. After passengers received their luggage, officers then searched suitcases by hand.
The Kingston flight was the only flight being processed during this search. Mr. Bodden confirmed nothing materialized and no one was arrested.
