HONG Kong: Customs has arrested a passenger at Hong Kong International Airport and seized about 1.8 kilogramme of suspected heroin worth about $1.41 million.
The arrestee, who claimed to be a seaman, arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Upon baggage examination, Customs officers found three abnormally heavy children story books amongst his personal belongings which aroused Customs officers’ suspicion. Subsequent in-depth inspection revealed about 1.8 kilogramme of suspected heroin concealed inside the front and back hard covers of the three books. It was believed that the books were made use of to avoid Customs’ detection.
