LAHORE: Then Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) can generate more revenue by exploring the new sources for tax such as website business and domestic manufacturers-cum-suppliers.
An official said on anonymity condition said there were many sources to collect taxes that have not been investigated until now. He said in the age of technology, people were running business over websites and earning million of rupees but they were not in tax base. He added by exploring new sources department would have not to increase the tax rates repeatedly in a year. He informed existing taxpayers have had showed dissatisfaction over high tax rates. He informed that department was working hard to broad the tax base and to detect new sources of tax.
A IT professional revealed that a business of ‘add posting and view adds’ was being run by many people who earned a lot. He said there were also many other hidden businesses that were run online. He added that government could get more revenue in wake of income tax by detecting such websites. He suggested that FBR should increase the capacity level of its work force by equipping with latest technology.
Official also said that FBR intelligence wing need to increase its efficiency to highlight the domestic manufacturers who have set up their factories in their homes to avoid taxes. There was need to mobilize the public to coordinate with tax departments to bring non-filers in tax net, he suggested. They were producing items without any label/brand and supply in markets and such business men need to bring in tax base, he said. There was potential to collect income tax, sales tax and withholding tax from these unregistered businesses, he said. He added that department should draw and adopt effective strategies to increase tax to GDP.
