LAHORE: Excise is taking strict action against defaulter vehicles in Lahore and other regions of Punjab as Secretary Excise Punjab Ali Tahir has warned Directors to improve their performance within 30 days.
Excise and Taxation Department has formed special teams to keep check on vehicles which have still failed to pay their Token Tax especially vehicles which are not registered but on the roads. Excsie Secretary strictly warned three Directors of Motor Branches of Lahore, Multan and Bahawalpur to lift their recoveries as soon as possible. After that Director Suhail Arshad has formd special teams to check defaulter vehicles on roads.
During one week Excise Motor Branch Lahore has seized documents of 700 vehicles, mostly defaulter of token Tax. Excise teams also seized documents of un registered vehicles. Number of people after seizure of their vehicle documents and national identity cards paid their taxes and got their documents back, which increased the collection of taxes in last week as compared to the last few months. Quarrel scenes of citizens with excise officials were also seen on roads during checking of vehicles on roads.
Teams of Excise Motor Branch Lahore have established special checkpoints on different roads to check defaulter vehicles. Excise seized documents during checking vehicles at Jail road, Feroz pur road, Model Town, Multan Road, Raiwand Road, Ravi road, Faisal Town and Shahdra toll plaza.
Campaign against defaulter vehicles likely to continue in coming weeks as Motor Branch is facing heavy short fall in tax collection. Huge number of people failed to pay their token tax even vehicles on life time token tax category have failed to pay.
