KARACHI: Examiners’ Association of Pakistan Customs held a meeting in order to formulate its future strategy regarding the ongoing investigation conducted by the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, Karachi Region into the case of dubious clearance of three consignments of paper waste/packing material by NLC terminal-East Wharf.
During the meeting, the customs officials expressed their concern over the inclusion of Customs’ officials names into the challan/interim report prepared by the authorities concerned of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR.
Sources informed Customs Today that the Examiners’ Association, during the meeting, reached a consensus that a committee should be formed to deal with the authorities to exclude the names of the Customs officials from the challan.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Directorate General of Customs I&I seized three consignments of paper waste/packing material which were cleared by East Wharf with sheer violation of Import Policy-2013.
It may be mentioned here that the authorities concerned of Directorate General of Customs I&I were also involved Customs officials into legal proceedings and nominated Customs officials into the FIRs several times in the past.
The sources further informed this scribe that the Examiners’ Association was also decided to take-up the matter before the high-ups of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
