KARACHI: The Director General of Internal Audit (Customs) Rubina Wasti is set to visit Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Headquarters, Islamabad, today (Wednesday) and will meet FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa, it was learnt here on Tuesday.
The sources informed Customs Today Rubina Wasti will give a detail briefing to Tariq Bajwa over the working of the Directorate on sensitive cases including gold, jewelry smuggling, steel and PTCL tax evasion case. The sources further informed this scribe that the DG Internal Audit (Customs) would also seek permission from FBR chief for conducting countrywide audit of all the Collectorates in gold smuggling cases and to take-up proper audit of the imported consignments of telecommunication companies.
The sources termed the said meeting of DG Internal Audit (Customs) with the FBR chief, ‘a very crucial one’, as the Internal Audit (Customs) will gear-up its working into gold jewelry cases after getting consent from the FBR Chairman.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has already taken up the matter of gold smuggling scam and also involved some Customs officials into the investigation.
However, the Internal Audit-Customs will start an investigation not only in a particular gold smuggling case, but overall countrywide audit into clearance of gold and jewelry cases.
