The Customs Post Clearance Audit conducted an audit of the data from December 2010 to February 2011. It was observed that M/s Owais & Shoaib Associates (PVT), Gulberg, Lahore imported two consignments consisting of Bunham-Bush Water Cooled Air Handling Units, Ceiling Concealed Type Fan Coil Unit and Cassette Type Coiling Air Conditioner Indoor Units which were cleared by the MCC Appraisement, Lahore against wrongful exemption of the customs duty. The Customs Department is of the view that the importer has knowingly and wilfully availed inadmissible exemption and evaded duty taxes as they despite the repeated reminders at their addresses failed to explain their side of the story to the Directorate as to why they should not be asked to pay taxes and penalized under the customs law. The directorate has charged the importer with the contravention and forwarded the case to the Collectorate of the Customs Adjudication.
