KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Collector of Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem has claimed that the customs authorities have suspended two laboratory officials including chemical examiner and assistant chemical examiner in their alleged involvement in patronizing the crooked importers in importing the banned antibiotic.
The Collector Muhammad Saleem while talking to Customs Today said that the authorities concerned are investigating the matter. They found during initial findings that the chemical examiner and assistant chemical examiner were involved in connivance of swindle importers.
“During the investigation, it has found that one of the importers is an overseas Pakistani and living in China”, Collector added.
The Collector Muhammad Saleem disclosed that the R&D Section of the Collectorate has registered an FIR against the importer Pure Enterprises for involvement in importing the banned antibiotic from India.
Responding to a query, the Collector MCC Appraisement (West) said that the investigation will take time.
Replying to another question, the Collector said that the value of scam could not be ascertained yet, as different ranging pharmaceuticals were being imported by the unscrupulous elements during the period from 2012 to 2014.
It is pertinent to mention here that the authorities concerned of MCC-Appraisement (West) and MCC-Appraisement (East) has registered six FIRs altogether on the directives of Chief Collector-Appraisement (South) against the importers who involved in the clearance of banned antibiotics.
