Customs Member Nisar expresses satisfaction over adjudication process
KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II adjudicated and decided 150 cases involving Rs 2 billion of legitimate duty/tax during the first three quarters (July-March) of the current fiscal year 2014-15.
Sources in the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II informed Customs Today that around 77cases of different nature were pending in the offices of the collector, deputy collectors and assistant collectors, while nine cases involving duty/tax amounting to Rs 389 million were in different courts, including the Sindh High Court (SHC), customs courts and session courts.
Sources further said that three cases of tax evasion amounting to Rs 20 million were lying pending in customs laboratory to check the veracity of the samples sent by the respective collectorates for finding the authenticity of the imported goods in which adjudication wanted experts’ opinion by the authorities concerned of the laboratory.
When contacted, Customs Adjudication-II Collector Dr Saifuddin Junejo confirmed the aforementioned information and said that the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II was determined to ensure timely disposal of cases, so that the legitimate revenue of the government could be recovered along with additional revenue in the form of fine/penalty.
Collector Junejo further said that the authorities concerned of the collectorate, despite shortage of manpower, were performing duties diligently and also making efforts to adjudicate the pending cases before the end of the current fiscal year 2014-15.
Collector Dr Saifuddin Junejo further informed that Customs Member Nisar Muhammad Khan has also expressed his satisfaction over the adjudication process of the collectorates, adding that the customs member asked the authorities concerned of the collectorates to keep the same pace.
