LAHORE: The Christian community, under the banner of Maseha Millat Party, has taken out another rally at the Lahore Press Club to protest against the Excise Department for issuing alcohol permits to members of the community.
The protesters asked the authorities to stop issuing permits, as intoxication is not allowed in Christianity as well. They said that the Excise Department was issuing licence to Christians to sell alcohol, which is against the education of Christianity.
A large number of people gathered in front of the Lahore Press Club on Friday. The protesters chanted slogans against the department.
Maseha Millat Party President William Javed was leading the protest. During his address, he said that the excise officials were involved in issuance of permits in the name of Christian community. He said that the issuance of permits to get revenue was tantamount to disgracing Christians.
The Excise and Taxation Department has the authority to issue permits of sale of alcohol to persons of the Christian community on terms and conditions.
