MANILA: The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has shuttered a food business based in Quezon City because of violating the value-added tax (VAT) law. The BIR said 3J Palabok Delight, owned by Analyn C. Pajes with registered address at Unit C 192 Filinvest Road, Batasan Hills, Quezon City, failed to register as a VAT taxpayer upon breaching the threshold amount of P1.91 million mandatory VAT registration and failure to pay the corresponding deficiency VAT.
3J Palabok Delight is a registered non-VAT taxpayer and has been filing its monthly percentage tax returns. However, the company’s declared gross receipts exceeded the said threshold amount from taxable years 2011 to 2013.
The BIR estimated the company’s deficiency VAT liability at P1.49 million for taxable years 2011 to 2013. The business was closed after it failed to comply with the requirements specified in the 48-hour notice and the 5-day VAT compliance. South Quezon City Revenue District Officer Florante Aninag said he recommended the closure of 3J Palabok Delight after it failed to address its violations and settle its corresponding VAT liabilities.
