DHAKA: Finance Minister of Bangladesh, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, said that private banks spent TK133.55 crore in education sector under Social Corporate Responsibility (CSR).
The Bangladesh Bank has issued a circular for private banks to spend 30 per cent of their CSR expenditure in the education sector, he said while replying to a question from treasury bench member M Abdul Latif in the House.
Muhith said 37 private commercial banks out of 39 spent money in education, health, disaster management, sports, art-culture, friendly environment and other sectors.
The minister also informed the House that as part of the CSR, the private banks also spent Taka 39.73 crore in the education sector in 2013.
