MULTAN: The Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) examined 329 suspicious vehicles in various locations during the anti-smuggling campaign, and impounded nine smuggled vehicles worth Rs 14.30 million involving duty/tax of Rs 12.2 million, while conducting anti-smuggling activities during the month.
The Anti-Smuggling Organisation Vehicle Branch checked different vehicles in suspicion of being smuggled vehicles during the month of April so far.
Different teams of Anti-Smuggling Organisation have positioned for the interception of smuggled vehicles and miscellaneous goods in their jurisdiction.
The ASO inspected 18 vehicles in Jampur, 29 vehicles in Dera Ghazi Khan and 43 imported vehicles near Dera Ghazi Khan Bypass.
As many as 33 imported vehicles were examined in the location of Bahawalpur. Moreover, 52 vehicles were inspected by the ASO teams in Muzaffargarh region to detain smuggled vehicle during their surveillance.
Almost 22 vehicles were examined in Khanewal district in doubt of being smuggled, while 35 vehicles were checked at Sher Shah Toll Plaza in Multan region.
Moreover, the ASO also checked vehicles in Kot Addu, Vehari, Muzaffargarh, Mianwali Road, Khangarh and the Multan. As a whole, the ASO examined 329 imported vehicles including Toyota Land Cruiser, Honda Accord, Toyota Vitz, HiAce vans, Nissan Wing, Suzuki Vitara, Toyota Wish, Hilux Surf, Toyota Prado, Ssangyong Rexton, Fielder, Premio, Probox, Toyota Corolla, Alto and Hino truck, but all were cleared and released after proper verification.
The ASO impounded eight vehicles, but after providing proper documents to the Customs Department, most of the vehicles were released after sound confirmation from Motor Transport Management Information System.
As many as six motor vehicles in the region of Taunsa Sharif have also been inspected in doubt of smuggling and the permanent staff members are recruited from the Anti-Smuggling Organisation.
Almost 26 examined vehicle owners have provided original registration book accompanied by import documents during inspection.
More than 300 vehicles were examined till the date in suspect of being smuggled.
