LAHORE: The Customs Adjudication collector has issued show-cause notices to parties involved in alleged evasion of duty and tax of more than Rs 27 million in fresh betel leaves scam.
According to the notices, the parties have been called for explaining their side of the story.
The parties were asked to give reasons why their imports of betel leaves should not be seized and they should not be penalised under the Customs Act, 1969.
The parties that were issued show-cause notices included Daud Tareen C/O Athar Nasir, Lahore, Athar Nasir proprietor of M/S Al-Barakat Traders Lahore, proprietor of M/S Askari Logistics, Abdul Khaliq Zaki and other.
Accused were reported to the customs authorities at AFU, as they were fraudulently evading duty and taxes on import of betel leaves, which was audited by customs audit team and irregularities were found in payment of duty and taxes in betel leaves import between 2009 and 2011.
