SYRACUSE: A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for distributing more than a ton of marijuana smuggled from Canada into the US through the Mohawk Indian reservation.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office tells media outlets that Allan Peters of Malone in northern New York was sentenced Friday in US District Court in Syracuse.
Prosecutors say Peters and associates smuggled thousands of pounds of marijuana across the border between 2005 and 2011, carrying it in hockey bags.
The U.S. Border Patrol seized about 250 pounds of marijuana from the smuggling ring in May 2009 in North Hudson in Essex County.
